What is Flipboard
Flipboard is an aggregated application that formulates your own personal magazine based on the type of news you are interested in. Yes, you can create your own magazine! If you are a Public Relations Professional, this app is brilliant. You have the ability to compile the social media and news sites that is of interest to you and your specific needs as a professional. Just download the app and begin picking your topics of interest.
Brief History
In February 2018, Flipboard reach 145 million users and over 11,000 publishers. This all transpired after the company released a campaign a few months prior. Flipboard bought full-page ads in print newspapers such as The Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal and ran digital ads on publishers’ sites, email newsletters and podcasts. (Peterson, 2018)
Established in July 2010, Flipboard emerged on the scene easing its way into busy professionals' lives, making a much easier way for individuals to read about what they were actually keen to. It became a simpler format to receive the news and trending social media categories that caught your eye on a day to day basis, the fact it is in a digital magazine is an added bonus. The Pros
First, the magazine-style interface gives this app a more intimate feel. Secondly, once you have created your categories, you are able to share your content within the app with friends or even on your social media sites. Third, any PR professional will find it easier to browse categories, finding exactly what they need as Flipboard adds thousands of new content daily. Lastly, Flipboard is completely free to use. You can display, curate and even become a publisher for FREE.
The Cons
A major misfortune is that Flipboard doesn’t host full RSS content on their app, you would have to click the article and you’ll be taken to the actual website where the article was submitted. So you have to leave the app in order to get the full story. That takes the users attention away from the app. Another setback is the number of ads on the app itself.
The Interfaces
Online the website there’s no magazine flip effect, just a regular website with only the information that you want to see, read and share.

Its simplicity and your specialized tabs at the top on the page is what makes it stand out. You can easily click on the topics you designed above to go directly to that section (same as the app).


Speaking of stand out, the actual website is more suitable for the office, a bonus is that you rarely see ad postings than on the app. Other than that, both the app and the website are completely the same.
This app makes it much easier for a PR professional, how much simpler could it be to get the news you need to share with your clients and audience.
